Fishing Gear & Tackle
Want to bring your own fishing rod? No Problem however we ask that light weight line (4-8lbs) be used and
NO BARBS! (its more fun for you!). Bobbers and flies are welcome however since we are a small pond there’s not much room for fly rods. (Fly fishing pond coming in 2027)
Do you rent or sell fishing gear on-site?
Check with us about available rentals and basic tackle sales. We also welcome guests to bring their own rods, reels, and tackle. 4–8 lb line ONLY
What bait and tackle work best for rainbow trout?
Common options: small spinners, spoons, flies, worms, corn, NO power bait is allowed. Light to ultralight spinning gear with 4–8 lb line works well.
Are barbless hooks required?
Barbless hooks are mandatory, but check specific rules posted at the pond or provided with your booking.
Techniques & Tips
Any tips for beginners catching trout?
Use light tackle, small offerings, and cast near structure or along the pond edges. Keep a steady retrieve for lures and be patient; trout can be seasonal and weather-dependent.
Should I practice catch-and-release or keep my catch?
Both are acceptable. If you plan to release, handle trout gently, use wet hands or a rubber net, minimize air exposure, and revive fish before release. If you keep trout, follow safe handling and cleaning practices.
Regulations & Safety
Are there size or bag limits?
Because this is a private, stocked pond, specific limits may be set by Five Ravens. Please confirm limits when booking or on arrival.
What safety measures are in place?
We maintain clear signage, designated access points, and keep the area well maintained. Children should be supervised at all times. First aid information is available on-site.
Conservation & Fish Care
How do you ensure fish health and pond sustainability?
We use responsible stocking practices, monitor water quality, and manage fish density to promote healthy trout and habitat.
Can I release fish I caught back into the pond?
NO, catch and release is not currently offered, NEVER release non-native fish or animals into the pond. Sometimes fish can wiggle off the hook, that’s okay however we ask that once a fish has been handled they not be released back into the pond to ensure all fish are healthy and maintain a clean water environment.

Handling & Cleaning Trout
How should I humanely dispatch and clean trout?

Can I take my catch home?
Yes we provide you (1) bag able to handle multiple fish. Bring a cooler with ice to transport trout home safely. We can advise on cleaning and storage.
Weather & Seasonal Considerations
Does weather affect fishing success?
Yes. Trout behavior changes with water temperature, light, and barometric pressure. Early morning and late afternoon can be productive; overcast days often improve surface activity.
When is the best time of year to fish for trout?
Spring through fall offer consistent opportunities. Peak times vary with stocking and local conditions.
